Hojicha - Japanese Roasted Green Tea
Hojicha is a special Japanese tea invented in 1920. It consists of autumn-picked bancha leaves that undergo a secondary roasting until they are brown in color. The leaves produce a warm, earthy aroma and nutty taste when brewed. The extra roasting also produces a tea with low caffeine. Technically it is a green tea despite its color and treatment, because it does not undergo fermentation/oxidation. Hojicha’s flavor and aroma profile – like roasted nuts – and low caffeine make it the perfect tea for chilly evenings, when you want something to warm you. It also goes well with food, and can make a great iced tea.
