The renowned Zen Master and monk Dogen of thirteenth-century, Japan, is known as one of the greatest elucidators of meditation in all spiritual traditions. A thinker, poet, leader of a monastic community, Dogen speaks of enlightenment as not separate from practice. Kaz will talk about his 50-year (half-century!) endeavor in translating Dogen's lifework with his colleagues, and read passages from this newly-published monumental book (over 1,200 pages).
Kazuaki Tanahashi is a world-renowned calligrapher, painter, Zen scholar, author and translator of Buddhist texts including works by Zen Master Dogen. Selected titles include Moon in a Dewdrop, Essential Zen, Enlightenment Unfolds, and Miracles of the Moment. A fellow of the World Academy of Art and Science, Tanahashi is also an environmentalist and peace-worker.
